Kwame Nkrumah, a visionary Ghanaian leader and statesman once said, “We face neither East nor West; we face forward.” In this spirit, we invite you to our Political and Financial Education Workshops series, #UjimaWednesdays: Internationalism. Internationalism is a political and social ideology that emphasizes cooperation, solidarity, and unity among nations and peoples on a global scale. Presenters will speak from their experiences and practice leading internationalist efforts to understand and unify oppressed communities. With each session, our speakers will not only define internationalism but also share their experiences and practice with leading internationalist efforts to unify oppressed communities who have and currently struggle immensely under colonialism, and capitalism-imperialism.
In this workshop, Yvette Modestin will discuss Black arts, religion, and resistance throughout the diaspora. Part of her session will include altar building, where she will create a sacred space to honor our ancestors. If you are attending in person, we ask that you bring ancestral items to contribute to the altar. These items can include photos of your ancestors, personal belongings, stones, or anything that reminds you of your ancestors.
Ample time for audience Q&A and discussion will follow the presentation.
