Resource Member Team:
The Resource member team collaborates with values-aligned partners dedicated to providing unrestricted multi-year support and/or engaging in recurring giving practices. Additionally, the team plays a key role in cultivating resources to sustain the long-term operating costs of the Boston Ujima Project.
Resourcing Night School:
The Boston Ujima Project is excited to launch Night School, a program aimed at enhancing members' knowledge in donorship, resourcing, and philanthropy with a focus on Black giving. This initiative will cover topics such as relationship management, equity-based fundraising, and philanthropy history, and will actively engage the resourcing team. Sessions will include institutional giving, time banking, trust-based philanthropy, resource organizing, asset mapping, and capacity building, exploring their impacts and benefits. We are committed to creating a dynamic curriculum, recruiting experienced facilitators, and engaging members, with feedback guiding ongoing improvements and continuous support from the Resource Organizing Fellow.
In session two, we will be joined by Kururama Masomere and Nahir Torres to explore the rich history of Black philanthropy through storytelling. This session combines historical insights with practical storytelling techniques, empowering participants to craft their own narratives within the legacy of Black giving.
Facilitators:
Nahir Torres is the Senior Director of Leadership Programs at Justice Funders, overseeing the Harmony Initiative, a cohort program that equips grantmakers with tools to advance transformative practices in philanthropy. With over 15 years of experience, including roles at The Hyams Foundation and The Boston Foundation, Nahir has cultivated expertise as a leader, convener, and network weaver, mobilizing resources for social justice. As Deputy Director at The Hyams Foundation, she focused on funding BIPOC and working-class movement organizations while advocating for shifts in philanthropic practices to align with movement goals.
Kururama (Kuru) Masomere is the Director of Capital Strategies at Justice Funders, supporting integrated capital fundraising for Just Transition projects and community-controlled institutions that build power in Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color. With a background in immigrant rights organizing, grantmaking, impact investing, and economic development, Kuru has mobilized grants and loans for community-based organizations. She holds a BA in Organizational Communications and Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University and a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Michigan. Originally from Zimbabwe, Kuru lives in Detroit with her two children, Amani and Ario.
