Thank you for joining us in kicking off our working group!!! We have lots of work ahead of us and are excited to have you, your creativity and brilliance on our team. 

Below is a summary of some key take-aways from our first meeting as a refresher for attendees and a review for those who couldn't make it. Let us know if you have questions. 

We have scheduled our second meeting for Monday, Nov. 6, 6-8pm at City Life in Jamaica Plain. 

We are excited to build on the momentum. In the first half we will start an important discussion and brainstorm about the role of our different member classes and caucuses in Ujima outreach and recruitment. In the second hour, we will break into working groups (see below for more info). For those who are interested in facilitating Ujima orientations, we will also use the second hour to offer the first of 2-3 "trainings For trainers." In this first training, we will run through a participatory Ujima workshop with commentary and time for questions and discussion.

We are excited to develop and support leadership and self-organization within these groups. If you are interested in taking the lead on coordination/scheduling, please let us know. And If you would like to contribute ideas or resources in other ways, please reach out in person or by email.

Notes from our Oct 2 meeting:

Ujima has many partner events and working group meetings coming up over the next 4 months. Attached is a PDF calendar with our events. Over the next few months, the outreach and recruitment working group will be drawing up plans and strategies to support the growth of Ujima membership leading up to these events and in coordination with these events, culminating in the second Ujima General Assembly scheduled for early February.  

We are starting with four areas of Outreach & Recruitment and are seeking more ideas from volunteers. As a start, the areas are:

1. Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

2. Tabling, door knocking and flyering

3. Text and phone banking 

4. Orientations and workshops
